About StackVPN

StackVPN was built out of frustration.

Most VPN services today push long-term plans, bundles you don't need, and marketing promises that have little to do with how the product actually works. We wanted something simpler: a fast, reliable VPN you can pay for monthly, set up in minutes, and understand without reading a sales page.

StackVPN is a small, independent project focused on doing one thing well. We use WireGuard, an open-source VPN protocol known for its speed, simplicity, and strong security model. There are no custom clients, no proprietary lock-in, and no unnecessary layers between you and the connection.

Our goal is not to compete with the biggest VPN brands. We're building a tool for people who value practicality over polish — developers, traders, and technically minded users who just want a VPN that works.

We keep our infrastructure simple, automate everything we can, and avoid collecting data we don't need. That allows us to keep prices low and the service predictable.

StackVPN is run as a side project, built and operated by engineers, not a marketing team. We believe transparency and boring reliability beat hype every time.

If you're looking for a VPN without long-term contracts, bundles, or unnecessary complexity, StackVPN is for you.

StackVPN Logging Policy

Effective date: December 15, 2025

StackVPN is built to be simple and privacy-respecting. We do not monitor what you do on the internet. To keep the service reliable and secure, we keep a small amount of operational data for a limited time.

What we do NOT log

We do not log or store:

  • Websites you visit, URLs, search queries, or page content
  • DNS queries (what domains you resolve)
  • The contents of your traffic (packets, payloads, files)
  • Application-level activity (e.g., which services you use)
  • Full connection logs that would allow us to reconstruct your browsing history

What we DO log (minimal operational logging)

To operate the service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues, we may log:

1) Account and billing events

  • Subscription status changes (active, past due, cancelled, expired)
  • Payment and webhook processing events (event IDs, timestamps, success/failure)

This data is used to automate access provisioning and resolve billing issues.

2) Provisioning and administrative actions

  • When a WireGuard peer is created, updated, rotated, or revoked
  • Which VPN server a peer is assigned to
  • Internal identifiers (e.g., allocation IDs, server IDs)

These logs help diagnose "why access stopped working" and support basic operations.

3) Service health and reliability metrics

  • Server health (uptime, CPU, memory, disk, service status)
  • Error logs related to service operation (e.g., WireGuard service failures)
  • Aggregate connection metrics available from WireGuard tooling (e.g., last handshake time and total bytes transferred)

Important: These metrics are used to confirm whether a tunnel is working and to maintain service quality. They do not include browsing history.

4) Abuse prevention signals (limited)

To protect the service and its IP reputation, we may record limited indicators such as:

  • Detection of unusual traffic patterns (rate limits triggered)
  • Blocks applied (e.g., to prevent spam or network abuse)

We do not use this for tracking browsing behavior.

IP addresses and "connection logs"

WireGuard itself does not produce traditional per-site activity logs. StackVPN may temporarily process technical connection metadata required to route packets and keep the tunnel alive.

We do not store detailed per-connection logs that would allow reconstruction of your browsing history.

DNS

By default, StackVPN provides DNS settings in the WireGuard configuration. DNS may be handled by third-party resolvers depending on configuration. StackVPN does not log your DNS queries.

Data retention

We keep data only as long as needed for operations:

  • Billing and webhook event logs: up to 90 days
  • Provisioning/admin action logs: up to 90 days
  • Service health and aggregate tunnel metrics: up to 30 days
  • System/service logs on VPN servers: 7–14 days (rotated and removed)

Retention periods may be shortened in the future.

Data access

Access to operational logs is restricted to:

  • Service operators (administrators)
  • For the purposes of troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and service reliability

We do not sell log data and do not share it for advertising.

Law enforcement and legal requests

StackVPN is designed to minimize stored data. If we receive a valid legal request, we can only provide the limited operational information we have, subject to applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The effective date will be updated when changes are made.
