How to connect

StackVPN runs on WireGuard. There is no StackVPN app to install: you use the official WireGuard client for your platform and load a config from your dashboard. Each location has its own config, and you can keep several of them side by side.

Step 1: get your config

Open the Dashboard, pick a location and click Connect. After a few seconds the card shows Download Config and Show QR Code. Configs are only available from the dashboard after you log in; we never send VPN keys by email.

Windows and macOS

  1. Install WireGuard from wireguard.com/install.
  2. On the dashboard click Download Config for your location. You get a file like wg_uk.conf.
  3. In WireGuard choose Import tunnel(s) from file and select the file.
  4. Click Activate. The status turns to Active and the handshake timer starts counting.

iPhone and Android

  1. Install WireGuard from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. On the dashboard click Show QR Code for your location.
  3. In the app tap +, then Create from QR code, and scan the screen.
  4. Give the tunnel a name and switch it on.

Linux

Install the wireguard-tools package from your distribution, download the config, then:

sudo wg-quick down wg_uk    # disconnect

Or import the file into NetworkManager: nmcli connection import type wireguard file wg_uk.conf.

Switching locations

Connect to as many locations as your plan allows and import each config as a separate tunnel. Only activate one tunnel at a time: WireGuard routes all traffic through the active one, and two active tunnels fight over the default route. To free a slot, click Disconnect on the dashboard, which revokes that config on the server.

Troubleshooting

  • Tunnel is active but nothing loads. Check the latest handshake in the client. No handshake means UDP to the server is blocked: try another network, or another location. A handshake but no traffic usually means the config was revoked; download a fresh one from the dashboard.
  • The config was revoked or deleted. A revoked config cannot be reused. Click Connect again on the dashboard to get a new one.
  • Websites see the wrong location. Confirm with ifconfig.me; some sites cache your previous location for a while.
